A TDS Return is a quarterly statement which has to be submitted to the Income Tax Department of India. Submitting TDS Return is mandatory if you are an adjuster. It has details of TDS deducted and deposited by you.

The concept of TDS requires that the person on whom responsibility has been cast, is to deduct tax at the appropriate rates, from payments of specific A nature which are being made to a specified recipient. The deducted sum is required to be deposited to the credit of the Central Government. The recipient from whose income tax has been deducted at source, gets the credit of the amount deducted in his personality assessment on the basis of the certificate issued by the deductor.

Validity

Once a TAN is issued, it is valid for lifetime. However, TDS Filings must be made quarterly on the 15th day of July, October, January and May. Non-filing of TDS filings within the due date will attract a penalty.

As tax deduction takes place throughout the year, it ensures a continuing flow of revenue to the Government.

The burden of responsibility of the Tax Collection Agencies and the Deductor are lessened.

Salary Deduction

If the employee falls under the income tax slab, TDS will be deducted on his/her salary. In other words, an individual whose income is less than Rs. 2.5 lakh, a senior citizen with a salary that is less than Rs. 3 lakhs and senior citizens (above the age of 80) whose earnings are less than Rs. 5 lakh, do not under the Income Tax Slab. Therefore, no TDS is deducted from their remuneration
